FREE PCB “Elimination of  PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) from the food chain through bioremediation of agricultural land”

Progetto LIFE

The LIFE FREEPCB project, co-financed by the European Union, is focused on the in situ remediation of a plot of agricultural land contaminated by PCB.

The main goal of the project is to demonstrate the synergic efficacy of different bioremediation technologies in preventing the entry of the contaminants in the food chain. Actions proposed in the project were successfully integrated with the agricultural practices usually performed by farmers.

The contaminated site assessment, the bench-scale experimentation through microcosm test and the direct field application were basilar steps of the implementation project.
